(Anchorage, Alaska) - The Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D., the leader of the "Modern Juneteenth Movement" in America has requested a meeting with Governor Sarah Palin concerning Juneteenth in the state of Alaska. Dr. Myers, Founder & Chairman of the National Juneteenth Holiday Campaign, the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation (NJOF) and the National Juneteenth Christian Leadership Council (NJCLC), will be the featured keynote speaker at the Alaska Juneteenth Conference, May 22-24, 2009, in Anchorage.

"We requested a meeting with Gov. Palin last November while Dr. Myers will be in our state," states Bishop Dave Thomas, Pastor of Jesus Holy Temple in Anchorage and the Alaska Representative of NJCLC. "Dr. Myers will be bringing a message of Biblical reconciliation and healing from the legacy of enslavement that we pray Gov. Palin will be open to hearing because we need racial healing in Alaska."

Concerns over Gov. Palin not issuing a 2007 Gubernatorial Juneteenth Proclamation, as required by law, and not responding to invitations to participate in the annual Alaska Juneteenth Celebration has created doubts in the minds of Alaska Juneteenth leaders about ever receiving any support for Juneteenth from the governor. "Juneteenth is an official state holiday observance in Alaska," states Bishop Thomas, also Chairman of the NJOF National Juneteenth Armed Services Commission. "We hope that Gov. Palin will not miss the opportunity to meet with our National Juneteenth Chairman in May, especially to welcome him and others attending our Alaska Juneteenth Conference from the lower 48 states and to dialogue concerning how her support for Juneteenth in our state can promote much needed racial reconciliation and healing from the legacy of enslavement."

For information concerning the Alaska Juneteenth Reconciliation and Healing Worship Service, on May 24, 2009, at Jesus Holy Temple, contact Bishop Dave Thomas at 907-575-8506, e-mail: BishopThomas9@yahoo.com, or web site: www.JuneteenthAlaskaALCAN.com.
